John Marsden

John marsden is an Australian writer, teacher and principle. He was born September 27 in Melbourne 1950, he is currently around 63 years old. Majority of his books are translated into 11 languages. John was sent to a strict military school to learn law for seven years and dropped out of university because he found law too boring. He tried all sorts of jobs for 10 years before he decided to write. He started up his own school in 2006 called candle bark. He was a very successful writer and teacher.

Description

Tomorrow when the war began was based in wirrawee and is set around 2009-2010. The book is set in Australia. The main problem in this story is when Ellie and her friends are practically the only ones left after the invasion of their town. Everyone else was scooped up and held as prisoners at the show grounds. This happened because an army which has not yet been identified invaded wirrawee. The entire town of wirrawee is involved in this invasion. The invasion is not resolved by then end of this book due to there are more in the series, but it does end with the group fighting back for their town.

3 main events

One of the main 3 events in the book is when Ellie blows up 3 soldiers with the lawn mower. She saves herself and her friends but kills 3 lives in order to do so. Ellie feels really bad and this event haunts her for majority of the book.

The next main event is when lee is shot. Ellie comes up with an idea to get lee out and it's not a carefree ride. The group that saved lee almost get killed on their escape and once again they kill more soldiers.

Last main event was blowing up the bridge. All the group was needed for this task and every member was used. The petrol tank was driven under the bridge and a rope was submerged in the fuel before being unravels arcross the road. Chris lights the rope and the explosion destroyers the bridge.

Character development

I believe homer will change the most during the course of this book because he is starting to mature and take some sort of leadership form. I think this will grow over the course of the book due to what's happening around him and the group. I think he isn't the only one though. Ellie is growing stronger and also forming into a leadership role.

Week three of Tomorrow when the war began

Journal entrie of Ellie:

From the minute the planes passed over my head I knew something was up, something was wrong! When we arrived home to a deserted town we were shocked and surprised. Every home seemed abandoned or ransacked. Our dogs where left for dead, only one was barely alive. I couldn't believe what was happening. We had been thrown into a new world were everything we did was a risk, ever discison we made was life threatening. We had to defend for ourselves. At first it was too emotion for me to do anything but I soon learnt that I had to step up. For my group of friends and also everyone that is trapped in the show grounds. I had to become a leader.

Moving on Futher into the book

The characters inTomorrow when the war began are changeing fast. ellie and her grioup of friends have been through into a new atmosphere in which they are not use to. the planes flying over them one night was only the start of what was to come next for them. Having all their friends and family locked up in a showground by enemy soldiers (terroists). This has distressed the group in a huge manner for this experience is out of the normal. How the group will move on and deal with this situation will be something ill look forward to. Slow start to the book but its getting much better now.

Tomorrow When The War Began

Tomorrow when the war began starts off in a strange manner. The main character (Ellie ) is writing about how she had been selected to right her friends story. I thought this was a strange entrance to a novel and I found it quite irrelevant but once the story kicked off it got better. It introduced all the characters well and explain them and their parents. It also set up the story for later in the novel. If I could change anything I'd get rid of that introduction.
